The sun is finally here, and with the sun comes new challenges.
This months project was understanding how to use fill flash in daylight. I wanted the sun to act as a hair light on Jo, bringing out the red hue of her hair. That meant the scene would be backlit so my single flash would be acting as the key light and illuminating the faces. As the flash and daylight have different colour temperatures I used a Colour Temperature Orange Gel, (CTO Gel), to balance the temperature of the two light sources. In the end I decided to use a rather fierce CTO gel to get a more sunkissed look.
I am happyish with the results. The images were about two stops overexposed and I lost some detail clawing them back in LR 4. (Like a fool, I forgot to check histograms).
